RCMP Blues Challenge Practice Test

What is the primary function of a field supervisor on the scene?

To coordinate the investigation and oversee safety.

To write the final judgement.

A field supervisor on the scene is primarily responsible for coordinating the investigation and overseeing safety. This role sets the on-scene plan, assigns tasks, and ensures that resources are used effectively while keeping everyone safe. They establish and maintain scene control, protect evidence and perimeter security, and facilitate communication among responding units, investigators, and other agencies. By making on-the-spot decisions, they keep the operation organized and ensure that procedures are followed, which helps the investigation progress smoothly.

Interviews and more detailed investigative work are typically handled by trained investigators or interview teams under the supervisor’s direction, not by the supervisor alone. Final judgments and legal determinations aren’t made on the scene by the supervisor; those come later through the investigative and prosecutorial process. While administrative duties exist, they aren’t the primary focus—the on-scene leadership and safety management are.

To conduct all interviews personally.

To manage only administrative paperwork.
